There are several types of hair loss due to the major cause underlying the hair loss problem. One of them is traumatic alopecia. This type of hair loss is very commonly happened in women hair loss, especially African or Caribbean. They love to do the cornrows to set their hair. Besides cornrow style, hair loss due to traumatic condition like this usually appear if you use some kind of hair reshaping products, such as hair straighteners, foam rollers, relaxers, hot combs, or permanent waves.
Types of traumatic hair loss
There are three types of traumatic hair loss:
Traction alopecia – this type of hair loss occurred as results of too much hair pulling due to tight braiding, rollers or ponytails. The hair loss might become permanent if the hair follicles are also pulled out.
Chemical alopecia – hair loss due to chemical might be caused when you use too much styling products. This could be relaxer or some other products with thioglycolates contained that usually used to create curls, or also to straighten your hair. The chemical might irritate your scalp and cause damages to your hair shaft, scalp and hair roots. This could also damage your follicle and cause hair loss.
Hot comb alopecia –this type of hair loss has another name: follicular degeneration syndrome. It could be happened when one use too much hot comb or iron. The hot comb destructs the hair follicles.
Hair loss due to traumatic condition such as above might lead you into permanent hair loss. When your hair follicles damage, you might have no cure for your hair loss because there will be no place for your hair to grow. So, you have to be careful when you want to style your hair.
