Studies show that dry, lifeless hair are likely encountering a depressing situation whereas, healthy looking, shiny hair reflects happiness and serenity in one’s life. Hair loss due to stress occurs normally after severe surgeries or illness or personal matters. The stress related medically is referred to as telogen effluvium.
With telogen effluvium, the hair lies dead and stops growing and then, after 2-3 months it falls out. However, it grows back within a year.
The more common type is called telogen effluvium. With this less severe type of hair loss, the hair stops growing and lies dormant, only to fall out 2 or 3 months later. Then it grows back within 6 to 9 months.
Alopecia Areata is another disease which is a stress-induced. In this disease, the white blood cells attack the hair cells due to which hair falls out within weeks, that too in patches. In some cases, hair may grow back itself but usually, treatment is required.
The cycle that hair growth follows is such that the active growth lasts around 2 years and is followed by the resting phase that lasts 2-3 months. After this, the hair falls from the scalp. Normally, every hair is in a different process of the cycles so the shedding goes by un-noticed. Even in this case, if the body experiences extreme stress, around 50% of your hair enters the resting phase and during the fall out span, all 70% of it falls out, causing noticeable hair loss. However, hair does grow back within a period of 6 months.
Amongst other reasons, financial problems, work related problems and domestic problems may trigger your stress level. A constant responsibility on your shoulders may be the reason you are stressed out. The key thing to remember during this period is that we should not let go of our healthy habits, which is the first possible reaction of a stressful life.
The best possible way to avoid hair fall during your stress level is to find the reason you stay stressful. After finding the problem, try to remove it. This, however, may not be successful and may cause more stress on the mind.
